The start of a New Year is always a good time to reflect on your leadership from the prior year. Reflection is a necessary trait for successful leaders. It takes time and it must be a priority in your busy calendar. Reflect on your leadership over the past year by asking yourself some of these questions and then commit to action:
- What are the leadership competencies that I am being measured against at my company?
- What did I do last year to develop some of these competencies? Were my actions measurable?
- What are my specific leadership strengths that I consistently demonstrated last year?
- What specific actions can I take and what behavioral changes must I demonstrate to make my strengths even stronger?
- What leadership skills do I need to continue to or start working on and why?
- When will I meet with my team and or boss to provide me feedback regarding my leadership competencies and behaviors?
- What is my vision for the type of leader that I want to be?
- What actions can I take now to move towards my vision?
- Who do I want to share my vision with?
The New Year has started! Get going and take some time to do some proper reflection. Think hard about the vision you want for yourself as a leader. Declare that vision to yourself and others. Then commit to action. Remember leadership is a journey and not a destination. Keep learning and growing!
